Our team were approached for a project which consists of multi-story extensions to the existing dwelling to create additional family space and bedrooms.
After assessing the plans it was quickly apparent that there is a Canal within a close proximity to the site.
Unfortunate the design architect had made no observation to the canal and the angle of repose.
We identified this right away and raised a concern in regards to the proposed foundation indicated.
After further consultation with our engineers we noted that a specific foundation design would need to be adopted here in the form of Piling.
We have a piling contractor who we work with and we were able to provide a comprehensive quote for the design , piling and ring beam fabrication supply and install to enable the client to move forward with the project.
This was a great help to them as it was a fast turnaround for the design and getting our piling contractor on site to undertake the works.
Although it wasn’t ideal that the client had to pay a bit extra for the foundation rather than a traditional trench fill, the good thing is the building is not going to be undermined by the foundations it built on and there will be no adverse load going onto the Canal.
